Consumer Code for House Builders
The Consumer Code for Home Builders, which came into effect in April 2010, applies to all Home Builders registered with the UK’s main new Home Warranty Bodies; NHBC, Premier Guarantee and LABC Warranty and consists of 19 Requirements and principles that Home Builders must meet in their marketing and selling of Homes and their after-sales customer service.
Why is the Consumer Code important to buyers?
The Consumer Code for Home Builders (“the Code”) was developed by the home-building industry to make the home buying process fairer and more transparent for purchasers.
The Code requires that all Home Buyers are treated fairly, know what levels of service to expect, are fully informed about their purchase and their consumer rights before and after they move in, and are provided with a speedy, low cost dispute resolution scheme to deal with complaints about breaches of the Code.
